The Cardinals played a gutty game last night coming from behind to beat the Florida Marlins 9-6. Thanks to a pinch-hit homerun by So Taguchi, the Cardinals bats came alive in the seventh inning.

The Cardinals improved their record to 68-39 for the season. What makes this victory so important is the fact that St. Louis had to overcome brilliant pitching by Josh Beckett who limited the Cardinals lineup to two runs through six innings.

Unfortunately for Beckett, the Marlins bullpen could not hold up. Matt Morris notched his twelfth win on a night when he wasn’t razor sharp, giving up nine hits and 4 earned runs; however, he managed to pitch for seven innings.

The Cardinals trailed most of the game but hung around long enough to get into Florida’s tired bullpen. Tonight the four-game series wraps up with A.J. Burnett facing Jeff Suppan. Suppan is 10-7 and has pitched well in his last few starts.

The Marlins won the first game 6-5. But the highlight of the series was Tuesday’s game where Chris Carpenter pitched brilliantly in the 3-1 victory over Dontrelle Willis. The Cards Ace is now 16-4 and headed for a Cy Young Award. The Cardinals seek to win this series and welcome the Atlanta Braves to Busch this weekend.
